Galantamine Side Effects

This product comes with a variety of side effects, some mild and others serious.

Moreover, you should know upfront that this is one of the supplements that has got quite a lot of adverse side effects, so you might want to be careful with it.

Although this is the case, not all the effects have been reported in almost all of its users.

They have been seen in certain individuals especially those who took without the initial consultation with a doctor and had other health issues at the time.

(That’s why I always insist on visiting a doctor before taking any supplement)

Ideally, the most common effects that are less severe include:

• Nausea

• Vomiting (Also feeling like vomiting)

• Diziness

• Diarrhea

• Loss of appetite

• Weight Loss

There were also other less common side effects like:

* Body weakness

* Indigestion

* Low levels of energy

* Shaking very often

* Felling somewhat faint

* Really painful stomach upset

* Nonstandard heartbeat

* Drowsiness

* Feeling sick

Then there are very rare yet very serious side effects, which include:

* Pain in the chest

* Hepatitis

* Loosing lots of body water

* Seizures

* The heart blocking completely

* Urinary bladder blocking

* Atrioventicular Heart Block

* Lengthy QT Interval on KEG

* Liver function tests that are not normal

* Superventricular premature beats

* Erythema multiforme

* Steven Johnson Syndrome

* Acute Pustular Skin eruptions

You may also notice a swelling in the tongue, throat or face. If this happens, chances are you have an allergic reaction to galantamine.

There are actually many more reported effects than the ones listed here, but they vary with the individual taking it.

Basically, there are 3 things that determine what side effects you may get.

And these are your current health condition, overdosing and your reactions to medications.

Precautions When Taking Galantamine

The best way to make sure you are not going to experience other reported adverse side effects is to visit a doctor before you start using it.

Please make sure you seek immediate medical attention in any case you see any of the effects.

If you are using it as a prescription just be sure to take as directed by the doctor, if you want to be on the safe side.

On the other hand, if you want to take it for other reasons, be sure to get a doctor’s advice first before you get your hands on it.

It will save you a lot of hassles.

Basically, there are no contraindications to galantamine if you are using it correctly and have gotten a doctor’s approval.

I have also seen people asking if there is agitation with it, and to be frank, there isn’t, unless of course you are agitative by nature.

Where Best to Buy Galantamine

You can get this product in different stores online under different brands.

My favorite place for buying galantamine and which I’d encourage you to buy the safest bottle from is AbsorbYourHealth.

It is a great nootropics store I have come to love through the years.

Firstly, I think they are they are only ones who are selling the standardized dose of galantamine with a goodgalantamine side effects blend of other great ingredients like gelatin, silica and maltodextrin, which come with other great benefits.

More to that, they will give you huge discounts if you decide to buy in bulk.

There is also shipping to United States, UK, Canada, Australia and anywhere else in the world.

They are also very reputable and have been recommended by trusted forums like reddit and others.

Personally, what I love about them is the customer service, it’s awesome.

If you want to know more about them, you can read my absorbhealth review.

I haven’t had the chance to interact with galantamine from other stores like Dream Leaf and Amazon among others, so I can’t really tell how they are going to work for you.

You can try them out as well. So far, absorb health’s galantamine tops my list.

You can also get the same Absorb Health bottle of Galantamine on Amazon. So if you would like to buy it from Amazon, you can easily do it.

But please note that I always recommend using Amazon to buy Absorb health supplements when you are shopping for other products there as well, but not the supplements alone as it can be very expensive, compared to buying from the main website.

 What is Galantamine?

Galantamine is a product that has been mainly used to treat Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

It is classified under the cholinesterase inhibitors.

They are called cholinesterase inhibitors because they block an enzyme called cholinesterase which is known to make a neurotransmitter called acteylcholine ineffective.

galantamine side effects

Other inhibitors in this class include rivastigmine, known as exelon, donezepil which is referred to as aricept and tacrine, also called Cognex.

That is why some of the side effects of Cognex are similar to galantamine.

Acetylcholine is an essential neurotransmitter in the brain that helps with boosting thinking abilities and when it is in low levels, symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease come about.

So this is definitely something you don’t want to get tampered with by the enzyme cholinesterase.

Galantamine is naturally found in may plants.

It commercially used when it has been extracted from plants like the Golden spider lily, the red spider lily and sometimes the snowdrop plant.

The compound formed from these plants is galantamine hydrobromide.

It was approved by FDA in 2001. In 2005, galantamine was changed to the name Reminyl and later on Razadyne.

Other names of galantamine include elmino, lotprosin, acumor, galantex, galatin and galsya.

Mechanism of Action of Galantamine

Well, how galantamine works is quite simple.

Firstly, in brain cells, it takes action on the nicotinic receptors which are receptors that are able to respond to external stimuli like from nicotine and ecetylcholine, from the outside.

And for the receptors to keep their effectiveness and unity, they should be regulated.

Galantamine does all the regulation.

Secondly, as I had earlier mentioned, it blocks the action of certain enzymes, cholinesterase to be precise.

This enzyme seeks to destroy acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that is involved in helping your brain with cognitive thinking.

People who have Alzheimer’s disease have low levels of ecetylcholine, and by inhibiting the enzyme cholinesterase which brings down acetylcholine, your mental performance gets up and running, and goes beyond what you thought possible.

User Reviews

I went looking for customer reviews on this product on a number of places I trust to see how they found it, and I was amazed.

Going by the people who rated it with a 5 stars and 4 stars, it shows there are more people who were happy with it than the ones who didn’t get any substantial amount of results with it.

So it is worth the take.

Although, you should remember to consult with your doctor before you jump on it so that you are able to know beforehand if it will help you without having suffer the nasty side effects associated with it or not.

Please take keen on this for your health’s sake.

So the main benefits you are getting off of galantamine include:

• A great treatment for dementia brought by Alzheimer’s disease

• Improving your attention and concentration

• Boosting your memory and retention

• Boosting the overall brain health

• Increasing the quality of sleep

• Bringing lucid dreaming – This is when you are dreaming, you are fully aware of your dreams and the fact that you are dreaming, it can be really thrilling at times. It will also make your dreams more memorable.

In fact, galantamine is one of the top 5 lucid dreaming supplements you should go for, if you want to try the “lucid dreams” thing out.

Well, the dosage depends on why you are using it. Ideally, the dosage should range from 4mg to 24mg per day.galantamine dosage (1 to 4 capsules)

If you want to have lucid dreaming, you should take 4 to 8mg of it each day. This should be both at night and in the course of your typical day.

If you want to use it to treat Alzheimer’s disease, you should take 12mg daily but on certain occasions, this could go up to 24mg.

Its half life is about 6 hours and the effects will start to kick in in about an hour or less.

Taken with precaution.

  1. Thanks for the article on Glantamine.
    I take many supplements but I have never taken anything to improve brain power. For that I use different exercises that allow me to have more presence of mind and more flexibility. But I guess that’s the easy way to do it so i may try it just to see what it does and if it works that’s great.
    thanks for the info

    1. Hey Eli,

      There are exercises that help with boosting the brain power but supplements tend to do a faster job than the exercises. Just try it out and see how the effects sneaks in on you.

      Cheers 🙂

  2. Thanks for sharing the side effects of Galantamine. It’s important to know these things before you try a product. I wanted to buy it but had heard that it has nasty side effects. But now that you have cleared the mist about for me, I think I will take it and see how it goes for me.

    My grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease. I don’t think that she used Galantamine, it was about 30 years ago. Since she passed away I’ve always been interested in the disease and how you can treat it.Thanks for the review.

    1. Hey Celeste,

      Glad to be of help to you. 🙂

      I’m also very sorry your grandmother passed because of Alzheimer’s disease. If she took galantamine, chances are she would have lived longer.

      Thanks for stopping by and have yourself a good one.

  3. Great post on this supplement. So the possible side effects of taking Galantamine are:

    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Dizziness
    • Diarrhea
    • Loss of appetite
    • Drowsiness
    • Weight Loss

    Other possible side effects are bloody stool, seriously painful stomach upset and possible seizures. It’s a possibility my face might swell. Also, my tongue and/or throat might swell, which last I checked I need those to breathe.

    And then you mention there are actually many more reported effects than the ones you list in your post.
    You mentioned that any of these symptoms could possibly be a allergic reaction to Galantamine…

    I want to thank you for such a well written post. I won’t have to worry about any of the side effects you just mentioned. I don’t think I’ll be looking to take this stuff any time soon.

    1. Hey Howard,

      You seem to have been driven away by the possible side effects of the supplement. 🙂

      Personally, I wouldn’t bash it off until I was sure it wouldn’t work for me.

      That’s why I advice not to give up on it yet until you are completely certain that it won’t be of any help to you. You should check with your doctor and have them check your health and then determine if it will get you the side effects or not.

      You never know, it might be of great value to you and probably won’t get you the said bad effects.

      I love applying a really handy rule that life taught me the hard way, in all situations. The rule is this, Never assume, always ask.

      Hope this advice comes in handy for you.
