What is Fasoracetam?

This is a nootropic in the racetam family that is used to enhance brain function.

It is also called LAM-105, NC-105 as well as NFC-1 and was developed by a Japanese Company known as Nippon Shinyaku in the early 1990s with an aim to treat vascular dementia.

Vascular dementia is a condition in which the brain tissues are injured as a result of being deprived of oxygen and nutrients, resulting to brain damage.

Nippon Shinyaku spent a lot of money developing fasoracetam but unfortunately, it failed clinical trials for its lack of efficacy and as a result, the trials on it were discontinued.

However, in the year 2013, a company known as Neuro revived clinical trials on fasoracetam.

They bought the clinical data from Nippon and started on clinical trials on it in adolescents who suffered anxiety, ADHD and autism with mutations in the glutamate receptor gene.

Fasoracetam is now in stage ll clinical trials for the same.

How Fasoracetam Works

Since this racetam is still under trials, how it works has not been fully established. However, below is the mechanism of action of Fasoracetam:

– It starts by increasing the release of the chemical compound responsible for alertness, mood, memory and focus, which is brain improvementacetylcholine from the cerebral cortex.

– It also encourages the uptake of acetylcholine by cholinergic receptors and in addition to this, increases sensitivity of receptors.

This is through stoping the breakdown of acetylcholine by cholinesterase.

– Another way it works is, increasing the GABA (B) receptors through receptor antagonism.

As a result, these receptors are expressed everywhere in the nervous system and more importantly, in the brain.

Through this activation, feelings of calmness and relaxation are experienced and feelings such as anxiety, fear, depression are subdued by GABA.

– Fasoracetam also activates glutamate receptors which have many important functions in the brain such as neuroprotection, relieve anxiety and synaptic plasticity.

This is a very essential area when dealing with any form of smart drug and that is why I felt it was important that I informed you dosage information of fasoracetamabout the dosage of fasoracetam.

So, initially when trials were being carried out, doses between 100 to 400 mg orally two times were found good, and this was with ADHD patients.

Now, it can be taken in a dose between 5-15mg under the tongue.

However, those that have actually used this drug have reported its effectiveness through taking a dosage of 100 – 800 mg daily.

So, to avoid any risks just start low (1 to 5 capsules a day) and increase the dosage with time. Also stick to what you are directed as written on the capsule bottle.

Benefits of Fasoracetam

  1. Reduce symptoms of depression

Fasoracetam was found effective in this area when rats conditioned to feel helpless recovered when the racetam was administered.

  1. Improve memory

When clinically tested on animals, fasoracetam was found effective on in preventing forgetfulness and amnesia.

There are no records on the same tested on humans, however, people that have used fasoracetam, claim that their memory improved when taking it.

I think this can also be proved by the reason that like any other racetams, fasoracetam increases the amount of acetylcholine, which is responsible for cognition, learning and memory.

Helps with withdrawal from other drugs.

Though their isn’t documented research to substantiate this, there are people that have said fasoracetam has helped them during withdrawal from GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid), phenibut and gabapentin,‍ all GABA-related CNS depressants.

The Side Effects

Fasoracetam can cause gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, constipation, nausea and bloating. It can also cause headaches and insomnia when taken in larger doses.

Pro’s and Con’s

The Pro’s

* It enhances cognition

This is an important function in human beings and therefore great that fasoracetam can be useful in facilitating the function.

* It helps in anxiety, depression

The Con’s

* Like many other nootropics, fasoracetam is not FDA approvedcons and disadvantages

This can scare way potential buyers because of the concerns of its legitimacy and effectiveness.

* It is quite costly

This might also cause people not to make a purchase because of its affordability.

* Can be hard to acquire

This has to do with many retailers fearing that it is not FDA approved therefore not stocking it but you can easily find the product in one of the stores I highly trust and recommend, Pure Nootropics.

My Final Thoughts on Fasoracetam

I think fasoracetam is a good nootropic but not a great one.

This is because, it’s a very young member in the racetam family and is still undergoing research.

For this reason, I personally do not recommend it.

You can try out better racetams such as Coluracetam, Aniracetam and Oxiracetam which has amazing proven health benefits.

However, if you are already using fasoracetam and find it to be effective, then you can go ahead and work with it.

If you have also decided to use it and never used it before for one reason or another, be sure to start in smaller doses and don’t forget to consult with your doctor.

And that is all about fasoracetam.

If you have any questions or comments on this supplement or nootropics in general, feel free to drop them below and I will get back to you immediately I see them.

Happy brain performance improving! 🙂

  1. I am pleased, for many reason, that I found your review of Fasoracetam.

I have a family member who deals with vascular dementia due to a lack of oxygen. When tested we found he was only getting 10% oxygen to his brain. Damage was already done, but to find something that might help reduce his depression and improve his memory would be a blessing. Fasoracetam could be what we are looking for.

My only concern is the fact that it is still going through trials and it is not FDA approved yet. I realize that this will eventually come to pass, but for now, I appreciate you stating your personal views and recommend a company that you trust.

It seems every supplement has some kind of side effect and that is to be expected as we all have a different chemistry within our bodies. So we will take a better look at this product Fasoracetam and see if it might be what we are hoping it is.

Thank you for your review. It has been very helpful. Do you know anyone personally that is using this right now? I would be interested to know how it is going for them.

    1. Hallo there LKick,

Nice to see that you have found value with the post.

It is our pleasure to know that the post is reaching those whom it is intended for and helping them.

      This is our everyday goal.

About people I know who are using the supplement, there are 2 people I know.

One is having a good experience with it while the other is not having such a really good experience. So it is hard to determine if it is really the best for you.

There are high chances it might work based on the other reviews I have seen, but as you say, medications and supplements respond differently.

The best thing would be to test it out but consult with your doctor first to be sure it is safe for the family member to work with.

      Hope this answers your question.

Do let me know how things work out.

      Have a nice day! 🙂

  2. Hi Dave. This is valuable information for people like me (66 years old). I am always reading topics on what habits I can develop in order that brain ticking. This product has a few pluses such as the memory improvement and the energising motivating features that reduce depression. Of course cognitive enhancers help, but carry some side effects which we don’t want to take on. Because of the differences in results and its not being approved yet, I think I would wait a while longer before checking out Fasoracetam. I am so much wiser for having read your article. Thank you

    1. You are always welcome Jj, 🙂

It pleases us to hear that we’ve helped.

I think waiting a little longer is also a good idea.

As you wait, I would recommend you check out Gingko Biloba, Phosphatidylserine and Bacopa monierri for memory improvement.

These supplements do a really good job and have been used for decades.

      I hope this helps.

Do have a wonderful day. 🙂

  3. Glenn Hodges says:

    Hello Dave,

Well, I have to disagree with your first statement, because I had no idea what a nootropic was and I am glad I ran across your article. Originally, I was interested in the product for myself, because I take an IBS medication which lists “lack of concentration” as a side effect and I often experience that exact thing.

Then as I read on, I started to think of my teenage son, who has been long diagnosed with ADD and suffers from some mild anxiety.  I wanted to perhaps give this a try, but noticed that you don’t recommend Fasoracetam.  Of the three that you do recommend, Coluracetam, Aniracetam and Oxiracetam, do you have a preference for a teenage male?

    Thanks, Glenn

    1. Hey there Glen,

Sorry for the first statement. 🙂

I think most of the people who read my posts know nootropics very well, but you have helped me realize that other people do read them as well.

I will be sure to look into that for future posts.

About the supplements I recommend being great for your teenage son, I think it depends on many factors like current health status and others.

Ideally, Aniracetam has proven to be very effective with anxiety and Oxiracetam with focus and attention.

Stacking would be a good option but I would advise you to check with your doctor first before using them to confirm they are safe for him since results vary with individuals.

I hope this answers your question.

      Have a fantastic day! 🙂
