Miranda Sing’s Self Help Book Review

A self-help book is one that is written with the intention to instruct its readers on solving personal problems.

Self-help books often focus on popular psychology such as romantic relationships, or aspects of the mind and human behavior which believers in self-help feel can be controlled with effort.

Self-help books typically advertise themselves as being able to increase self-awareness and performance, including satisfaction with one’s life. They often say that they can help you achieve this more quickly than with conventional therapies.

On that note,in this review,i will be talking about a self help book titled “Self Help Book By Miranda Sings” In this review, i will take you through what the book is ,what it talks about ,its cost and finally my thoughts about the book.

What It Is
Selp-Helf is a book by Colleen Ballinger and her brother Christopher Ballinger, which is a parody of the self-help book genre.

Simon & Schuster calls it a “decidedly unhelpful, candid, hilarious ‘how-to’ guide”. The book is written in the voice of Colleen Ballinger’s YouTube character Miranda Sings and presented in mock-scrapbook format, with silly advice, photos and comically bad artwork.

Colleen Ballinger (born November 21, 1986) is an American comedian, actress, singer and
YouTube personality. I think that is why her book “self helf” plays around the comic world

She is best known for her Internet character Miranda Sings, posting videos of the character on YouTube and performing her one-woman comedy act on tour in theatres worldwide.

She created the comically talentless, egotistical and eccentric character to satirize the many YouTube videos featuring people singing badly, but who appear unaware of their lack of talent. This is really interesting!

In her videos and stage act, the narcissistic character sings and dances badly, discusses current events that she misunderstands, gives inept “tutorials”, collaborates with other YouTubers, and rants about her personal issues and her critics, whom she calls the “haters”. I think this is quite an interesting way to handle issues.

Ballinger also features comedy and lifestyle videos on her personal YouTube channel and a vlog channel, Colleen Vlogs.

Her YouTube channels, combined, have surpassed 2.8 billion total views. That is pretty massive i mean, not many people get this much viwews on youtube.

The Miranda Sings channel has more than 8 million subscribers, and the character has more than 6 million Instagram followers.

Ballinger won a Teen Choice Award for “Web Star: Comedy” and a Streamy Award as Best Actress. The Hollywood Reporter selected her as one of its Top 25 Digital Stars.

Ballinger has appeared as an actress and singer Off-Broadway , in regional theatre, on television and in web series, and has sung as a guest artist on albums.

In 2014, she guest-starred as Miranda Sings on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld and appeared as Miranda on The Tonight Show .

In 2015, Ballinger was a guest co-host on The View, appeared as Miranda on The Grace Helbig Show and released a best-selling book, written in Miranda’s voice,
Selp Helf .

Ballinger conceived, produced, wrote for and starred as Miranda in the Netflix series, Haters Back Off , which explored Miranda’s origins and family life; the series ran for two seasons, 2016 and 2017. In 2018, she appears in season 3 of Escape the Night. She continues to tour in her Miranda shows. Amazing facts about her huh?!

What The Book Talks About

In this decidedly unhelpful, candid, hilarious “how-to” guide, YouTube personality Miranda Sings offers life lessons and tutorials with her signature sassy attitude.

Through satire, irony, and comic exaggeration, actress/comedian Colleen Ballinger’s YouTube persona Miranda Sings points out the inanity, frivolity, and downright ridiculously unrealistic “advice” that seems to be everywhere on social media. SELP-HELF topics include health and beauty, fashion, career, romance, finances, and more.

It would be impossible to read a book of advice by someone as smart and talented as Miranda without becoming a better person (unless you’re really, truly hopeless). But as long as you’re paying attention, you should pick up some tips on everything from dating to fashion to finances and everything in between (including children!).

Older teens can be encouraged to think about how Colleen Ballinger uses satire, irony, and exaggeration and how those techniques affect the real message conveyed.

The book may seem ridiculous at first glance, but mature, media-savvy teens can absorb positive messages about the absurdity of how self-help and self-esteem videos make things look so easy ,and find a sense of community in realizing they’re not the only ones who recognize social media’s often-unrealistic expectations.

Self Help takes things a step beyond Miranda’s weekly videos by providing readers with an introduction to both Miranda’s mom and uncle.

The dynamic duo make several appearances throughout the book, and they both provide a bit more information about topics beyond Miranda’s comprehension. For example, Miranda’s Uncle enters the book to teach readers about the different bases in touching.

Since she isn’t married Miranda hasn’t hit a home run yet; home girl won’t snuggle until she has exchanged wedding vows. Later in the chapter she even provides a few tips for how to write these vows.

As an added bonus, the book includes a variety of interactive projects for readers to utilize. Readers are encouraged to become the anti-porn unicorn, complete math and science problems, cut out posters, play games, and so much more.

There are also several links that will take viewers to additional videos online. Some advice just isn’t meant to be contained in a book! Twerking the anti-porn way is one of those lessons.

This book will cost you this much according to amazon.

My Thoughts
I think this book is really funny. It refers to showing to much cleavage as “porn”. Parents might find this inappropriate but it is something Miranda would say in her videos.

The book is creative and well-made. It is definitely satire so I would not take it seriously.
