The Gist of the Book and More on the Author
This book talks about the art of tidying up using the little time you have to do some little cleaning but in an efficient way.
The book advocates for doing cleaning for each room at a time instead of spending hours working on the whole house which ends up being hectic for you and most oftenly, the cleaning doesn’t get as good as it should.
Here, the author says that it is wiser to handle the trash that is lying in house in a wise way so that you are able to make your rooms more spacious as well as reduce the clutter in the house which makes the house even ‘untidier”.
There is a method that has been shared in the book that is called The “KonMari” method that highlights all the steps and techniques that you need to employ in your house so that you are able to keep up with the required levels of cleanliness.
The book was written by Marie Kondo. I don’t know if you noticed but the name KonMari which represents the cleaning strategy is a short form of the name Marie Kond0 written from the right to the left?
Marie is a fairly famous cleaning expert in Japan who holds a place of honour in the cleaning industry. She has been helping thousands of individuals clean up their houses and also teach them how to maintain the tidiness.
She has a consulting firm in her country.
She has been hosted in quite a number of popular TV shows and radio programs as well as newspapers and magazines like USA Today, The New York Times, Family Circle, Slate, The London Times and NPR’s Here & Now, to name a few.
She has been added to the top 100 most influential people in the world.
This book of the life changing magic of cleaning up happens to be one of the best sellers with more than 2 million copies bought by folks in Japan, The UK and Germany. Out of this book, a Japanese drama came out that has really impacted the lives of many.
Some More Meat of the Book
The book has first talked about exactly how we allow clutter to thrive in our homes, which I found really insightful. Personally, I think, you don’t just want to clean a house and that’s it.
You will want to understand how all the trash is coming about and how you are supposed to handle it as it comes so that you avoid getting pushed to the corner after a few weeks. And this book has explained it very well.
While there is so much value in this part, the two main causes of clutter accumulation that caught my eyes were a strong attachment to things of the past and a deep fear of the future, which is quite true if you think deeply about it.
I also liked the strategy that she shares on knowing what to dispose off and what to keep in the house.
The thing is, we are all attached to almost everything we have in our houses and if we were to be asked whether all the things in there meant something to us, we’d say everything.
But if you start weighing each item using the emotional method shared in the book, you will be surprised to know how much you can do without.
I would say that the book reveals some simple yet greatly valuable methods that open your eyes to the kind of cleanliness you should be having in your house and how to get your home from what is currently is to the levels described in the book.
In summary, the book is something you are going to get so many beneficial lessons from as far as proper arrangement, evaluating the need of things in your life and attaining, not to mention maintaining high levels of proper orderliness is concerned.
The Best Place to Buy The Book
I always recommend buying the book from www.amazon.com because of the great reputation it has had with their services over the years. It is also ranked first in terms of online stores in the world.
I also find it very convenient and time saving if you had any plans of buying other things for your home, work or for your own personal use, as you can order them all at once.
You will also get a summary of this book in the store which will be of good help in getting to the juicy points fast and implementing the methods and tips you get from the book.
My Final Thoughts About The Book
Personally, I find the book to be very practical and realistic with the methods it recommends for bettering houses. As you read, you can easily relate the things the author talks about with what goes on in your home.
Her solutions are also very handy as you get to see real results. If you want more space, she has explained in detail how you can get the house to give more space using a bit of reason and logic.
And this takes me to my next point.
The book will help you know how to think rightly and plan wisely in other things outside of cleaning. She make the idea of thinking and planning quite consistent in the book and if you are sure to implement what she says, you should start noticing that you are able to plan things very well in others places like your work, during an event and other similar areas.
You also get cultivate a very healthy habit of critical thinking that will go along way in reducing a good number of challenges you might be struggling with at the moment.
And that is all there is to this book folks. 🙂
Another resource that will go very well with this book in terms of acting on what you learn is the Excuses Begone DVD.
I hope this review has been helpful to you when it comes to what to expect in the book.
