Have you ever been doing something for a long time and then all of a sudden you feel a huge surge of energy overtake and get you to do things in a way you never thought possible?
I am sure for a good number of times you have gotten this experience I like to call “the zone” where you felt things were just flowing in your work or the activity you were engaged in, right?
And you would really want to know how to bring back that epic state and have it stay forever if possible as well as know a few things about how your mind works, isn’t it?
Well, this book called flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi will take you towards that direction as he has been researching deeply about it for a good while now.

The Gist of the Book and The Author
This is a book that focuses on helping you, the reader know how to get into the zone, at work, or on any project you are working on. It gets into the science behind the energy that is released by your body that make you focus hard on what you are doing that gets your beyond your goals and how to make it work for you.
This energy is known to bring a sense of fulfilment and peace as it helps you take your focus away from things that are weighing you down to the things you are doing at that particular time, which enhance your consciousness.
The book aims at helping you reach the heights of happiness through improving your consciousness with the help of the inner harmony and focus that brings the “flow” which is also referred to as the zone.
The author of the Flow is a guy with a very difficult name called Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He is a psychologist by profession who is also a professor on the same at Claremont Graduate University.
He was born in September 1934 and he has roots in Hungary.
He has also been in schools like Lake Forest College and University of Chicago in the psychology department. He has been researching, observing and analysing the mental state that comes with high focus called the flow and he shares his discoveries in this book.
Some Interesting Concepts of the Book
Well, the book is pretty much on Flow. This is a mental state that is quite powerful as it gives someone lots of energy and focus to complete the task they have been doing for a good while. He has tackled this topic very well that reveals to you the things that you should do to get into this state more often than you have been in the past.
He also goes into the concept of self consciousness, love and rewarding. Here, he explains the need of people going into their inners selves to find gratification and happiness rather than depending on the outside factors.
He says that this is the beginning of ending your life troubles.
He stresses that freeing yourself from the social environment to the point where you don’t really recognize the rewards or the punishments of the environment is where peace begins and happiness begins to blossom.
He goes on to discuss about the responsibility of the human being to make the effort of finding happiness. In this topic, he explains how you should take the initiative to get yourself immersed into things you love but then try to push yourself everyday to become better at it.
He says that doing this is the way to getting into the optimal experience that makes things easier, enjoyable and interesting for you.
I have to say that he has explained this topic very well in a way that makes you connect things you felt in the past while working on your passion that you cannot quite explain.
Also, he gives a good idea of how most folks think and feel like work is something tedious and boring and that should be avoided when possible, which is wrong.
He then gives a good idea of how work is supposed to be like and how to get there from wherever you may be at the moment.
I have to say that the book is quite insightful and inspirational as it explains most of the things that happen in our minds that we can’t understand, those mental things that weigh us down and how to handle them all wisely so as to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

My Personal Thoughts on the Book
Personally, I find the book to be quite informative and educative as it reveals most of the difficult to explain things that happen in our lives. Things like optimal experience, harnessing the power of our minds to live as we would want, the way a good job should be like and lots of other interesting areas.
The fact that that the author has been in this field for decades and going by the way he breaks down things in the book, I must admit that he is a person who knows his stuff and you are going to benefit from his knowledge in a huge way.
