What the Series is About .
BrainDead is an American political satire
science fiction comedy-drama television series created by Robert and Michelle King.
The series stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Laurel Healy, a documentary film-maker who takes a job working for her brother Luke ( Danny Pino ), a U.S. Senator , when the funding for her latest film falls through.
Assigned as his new constituency caseworker, she discovers that
Washington, D.C. has been invaded by extraterrestrial insects which are eating the brains and taking control of people, including members of Congress and their staffers.
Much of the internal comedy of the series was that, in the altered reality of Washington DC politics, only a few people noticed.
Genre of this series include:
Political satire is satire that specializes in gaining entertainment from politics; it has also been used with subversive intent where political speech and dissent are forbidden by a regime, as a method of advancing political arguments where such arguments are expressly forbidden.
Comedy-drama, occasionally known as dramedy ( portmanteau of words dram a and com edy ), is a subgenre in contemporary forms of tragicomedy , especially in television, that combines elements of comedy and drama.
Science fiction(often shortened to SF or sci-fi ) is a genre of speculative fiction , typically dealing with imaginative concepts such as advanced science and technology , spaceflight ,time travel , and extraterrestrial life .
Science fiction often explores the potential consequences of scientific and other
innovations , and has been called a “literature of ideas”.
It usually avoids the supernatural , unlike the related genre of fantasy .
Historically, science-fiction stories have had a grounding in actual science , but now this is only expected of hard science fiction .
I think this genre makes these modern series and movies really interesting.
Science fiction elements include:
Temporal settings in the future , in alternative timelines, or in a historical past that contradicts known facts of history or the archaeological record.
Spatial settings or scenes in outer space (e.g. spaceflight ), on other worlds, or in
Characters that include aliens , mutants ,
robots , enhanced humans and other predicted or imagined beings.
Speculative or predicted technology such as
ray guns and other advanced weapons ,
teleportation , brain-computer interface ,
bioengineering , neuroprosthetics ,
superintelligent computers and others.
Scientific principles that are new or that contradict accepted physical laws, for example time travel and faster-than-light travel or communication .
New and different political and social systems and situations, including utopian , dystopian ,post-scarcity , or post-apocalyptic .Hartwell, David G. (1996). Age of Wonders: Exploring the World of Science Fiction. Tor Books. pp. 109–131.
Future history and evolution of humans on earth or on other planets.
Paranormal abilities such as mind control ,
telepathy , and telekinesis .
Other universes or dimensions and travel between them
